Dobroyd RC Lasers 20260423

Fifteen DAC Sailors attended our Scratch event yesterday.

Conditions gave us a pleasant Autumn day with a temperature reaching 22oC.

The wind was testing, initially from the South but backing to the South East for most of our races. The windspeed ranged from 6 Km/Hr., with the odd gust to the low twenties, (3 to 11 Knots).

We chose A sails for the first half and B’s for the last few races

It was very good to see Geoff Lucas back and sailing after his recent medical setback.

Thank you to Phil Stevenson, also back after a procedure. Phil offered to score and act as Race Officer for the day.

Our initial course was set to the West. We completed 2 or 3 races there and then moved to the East for the rest. Graham Brown designed and laid a course which gave us an up and down set, 2 laps for the finish.

Graham then set about showing us how good the course was by  taking Championship honours for the day. Graham scored 13 points including 3 firsts. Martin Thearle continued his sailing skills to win race 5 and bracket that with 4 places. Martin scored 15 points and finished in second place. Robin Tickner won 2 races and with 2 places scored 17 points to come home in third place. Stephen Deane almost had a foot on the podium with 2 firsts and a place, just 1 point behind.

These first four sailors had all the wins and were well clear of the remaining fleet leaving Noel McPherson to lead those following. The next 8 boats scored within a point or 2 with a countback for 9th and 10th. The Patersons must have had a coin toss as Karen pipped Bruce for 9th place.

In all, a good day’s sailing. Once again, just 1 or 2 points can make a significant difference in one’s final position.

Race winners were, Graham Brown 3, Martin Thearle 1, Robin Tickner 2 and Stephen Deane 2.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 13 points.

Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 15 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 3rd place with 17 points.

The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Robin Tickner and Noel McPherson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 30th April for a Scratch Event.
