DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 2nd April 2026

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20260402

Happy Easter to you all.

We started the day in proper fashion as Judy Evans presented us all with Easter Eggs, thank you Judy, a thoughtful touch!

Our thanks also go to Trevor Bowden. Trevor arrived to sail but continuing electrical problems foiled his day. Trevor opted to act as Race Officer and to score for us, a gentleman!

Bruce Paterson also had a short day with similar boat issues.

Thirteen DAC Sailors enjoyed a near perfect day for our Handicap racing yesterday.

There was a gentle breeze from everywhere and this developed into a Nor’Easter by race time.

The wind, for the record, was 6 to 13 with gusts to 23 Km/Hr., (3 to 7, gusts to 12 Knots), just right. The temperature rose to 25oC.

We practiced with A sails but B’s were used by all for the races.

The starting Handicaps were well spread with Geoff Lucas and Graham Brown seeming to benefit from a gift of low numbers. These were based on past results. Martin Thearle suffered most as a result of his past successes.

The breeze was fickle for the start of the earlier races. Many were unable to cross at their start times resulting in an almost scratch day.

Our racing got underway in good time with Geoff Lucas having a field day. Even with a 20 second adjustment for each win, (15 for a second), Geoff still managed with top finishes up to the last race. Geoff scored 17 points to win the day. Good to see Graham Brown back in the fold after a short break. Graham put together 3 firsts to earn second place, scoring 21 points. Brian Chapman scored 27 points for third place with a satisfying day’s sailing.

The following scores were fairly close with few points separating those from third and on. We each had some good results at some stage. Judy Evans (a win). Philip Hetherington, Rob Lowndes, Noel Mc Pherson, Karen Paterson, John Porter, Lew Verdon (a win) and Richard Thorpe all scored a place or two.

Our next Handicap day in May should be a ripper as our finishing handicaps were greatly compressed by the end of the day.

Race winners were, Geoff Lucas 1, Graham Brown 3, Brian Chapman 1, Judy Evans 1,  Karen Paterson 2 and Lew Verdon 1.

Geoff Lucas took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 17 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 21 points.

Brian Chapman finished in 3rd place with 27 points.

The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 9th April for a Scratch Event. I’ll forward forecast details closer to the day.
